The Madras Maiden, a B-17 piloted originally as “Chuckie” during World War II, visited Burke Lakefront Airport, in downtown Cleveland, on Monday morning, July 17. During World War II, over 12,000 B-17 airplanes were manufactured, and today fewer than 15 can still fly—the Madras Maiden is one of the few left that has been restored and can still fly. The aircraft has been carefully restored by the Liberty Foundation, which as also restored other historic aircraft, and is traveling across the county for people to see and ride.
The Liberty Foundation will be offering tours and rides of the Madras Maiden to the public on Saturday-Sunday, July 22-23 at Burke Lakefront Airport. Rides begin at $450 for non Liberty Foundation members, and $410 for members. Tours are free.
